As a communications professional and freelance consultant I have produced audience- and objective-focused content for a wide range of magazines, brochures, web pages and adverts, which effectively communicate the organisation's position and what it offers to its target audiences. My experience includes:

  • producing printed and online marketing and internal communications materials for
    • Made Up North Productions: website / print
    • The University of Manchester:
      - Science for Life alumni magazine: issue 1
      - Features for Your Manchester alumni magazine: Martin Amis interview
      - Features for UniLife corporate magazine: Tim Westlake profile, Alys Young profile, Kaye Mitchell profile
    • the DTi's Knowledge Transfer Partnerships scheme with two Manchester universities
    • business software house Quantiv
    • a range of local businesses

  • two and a half years in The University of Manchester’s Division of Communications, Media and Public Relations, writing and editing the university’s magazine, staff newsletter, press releases, faculty newsletters and online content:

  • two years at Manchester’s Centre for New Writing, promoting and organising events with the likes of Martin Amis, Colm Toibin, Hanif Kureishi, Howard Jacobson, Will Self, Helen Dunmore, John Banville and a wealth of emerging writers. Produced the Centre’s website, brochures, newsletter, press releases and course, summer school and event publicity including flyers/posters and promotional copy (pp. 16-17), and achieved a 200% rise in event attendance

  • five years copywriting, editing and project managing websites for blue-chip clients including Legoland, Barnardo’s, Justgiving, Wedgwood, Twinings and L’Oreal, and business software developers Baan and Quantiv.
